Spring 2014 Ready to Wear

Prabal Gurung Review

As the lights shined a glass block was prevalent, it appeared to be covered in plastic wrap. Inside this space were the models; the idea behind this enclosure was the preservation of a woman’s elegance. The show was inspired by the ‘50s and Marylyn Monroe herself! The hues of the ensembles were combinations of pastels and vibrant fluorescents. A wide variety of the prints ranged from the space age to touches of abstract florals. Overall, the atmosphere gave off a retro and futuristic sense.

The looks included sweetheart necklines and rose appliqué tops paired with midi pencil skirts, and even PVC raincoats. I will do whatever it takes to get the PVC skirt, if I do say so myself. This is a most in all closets!

As the presenataion contuined my mind replayed a series of "gimmes" and "I need NOW's." While this continued, I had a peculiar thought: something was off. I could not decipher what that something was. After, (the show had only been watched a multitude of times) , I figured it out. I stumbled upon the idea that the beginning of the show was very reminiscent of Prada; the sunglasses especially! The Prabal we all know and love finally appeared, with his classic florals. But yet again, it seems as if Mr. Gurung has taken much inspiration from the Dior house this time. Regardless, I give the collection an A+, very pleased overall!
